Sphero, the company known for creating the Sphero BB-8 and the Ollie, has a new product that is more advanced that their previous products. Introducing the Ultimate Lightning McQueen by Sphero.

Before you say anything, this is more than just a RC car. Lightning McQueen packs tons of technology into a small, yet kid (and adult) friendly package. You can control Lightning McQueen via an app for Android or iOS, just like Sphero’s previous app-controlled toys. The app is very simplistic, with a virtual joystick to control and buttons to do things like burnouts or donuts. The car was developed with some help from Pixar. It’s about 10 inches (25cm) long, 5 inches (12.7cm) wide and about 3 inches (8.2cm) tall.

Lightning McQueen will leak, move and talk just like he does in the movies with complete eye and mouth movements which are controlled by a motor and a LCD screen. There are about six motors inside, one for the animatronic mouth, two for the ’emotive’ suspension, two for the front wheels (which can raise themselves) and one for steering. There is also five touch sensors on the roof, hood, both doors and the back area. You’ll also find processors for Bluetooth Smart 4.0, Wi-Fi and one to control the LCD. And there’s also light sensors to adjust the LED headlights and tail lights based on the lighting situation in your room. The car has a range of 30 meters (100ft) over Bluetooth and a top speed of 6 mph. You’ll only get about 40 minutes of playtime but the car charges in about an hour.

Sphero’s Ultimate Lightning McQueen is available for pre-order now from Sphero’s website and exclusively at Best Buy Canada for $399 CAD ($299 USD), it will release on June 15th (the day before Cars 3 releases).
