FXX has ordered a Deadpool animated series by Donald Glover

FX Networks has ordered a new animated comedy series about Deadpool and it’s being written, executive produced by Donald Glover along with his brother Stephen Glover. The two will serve as showrunners for the new series.

The series will premiere in 2018 on FXX with 10-episodes and the show will be joined by Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory from Marvel Television, who will join the Glover brothers as executive producers. Loeb is said to be a big fan of FXX’s Archer and is the been the one to approach FX with the idea.

Glover was approached because of his talents and geek cred. Marvel Television, FX Productions and ABC Signature Studios will be behind the show’s production. A voice cast has not been cast yet. This new Deadpool series also marks the second collaboration between Marvel Television and FX, the first being the critically acclaimed X-Men series, Legion, which has already been renewed for a second season, set to premiere next year.

“Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta,” said FX president of original programming Nick Grad. “With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

This new project comes in the midst of Glover currently filming the Han Solo spin-off film, in which he plays a young Lando Calrissian and will also appear in Spider-Man Homecoming, this July. Glover will also lend his voice to the live-action remake of The Lion King, as Simba. This new Deadpool series will also delay the second season of Glover’s other FX show, Atlanta, which is said to premiere in early 2018.

“How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX — the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation,” Loeb said.

Deadpool is not the first show for Marvel, it comes after the New Warriors and Cloak and Dagger which are scheduled to premiere on Disney’s Freeform channel (formerly known as ABC Family), The Gifted on Fox, Runaways on Hulu. As well as ABC’s Agents of Shield, which is expected to get renewed and the upcoming Inhumans series which was made in collaboration with IMAX. Let’s not forget all the Marvel Netflix series such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist which all lead up to The Defenders mini-series and The Punisher.

Next year, we’ll also see Ryan Reynolds return as Deadpool/Wade Wilson in Deadpool 2, which will release on June 1st, 2018 and is being directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde).
