IKEA, the Swedish company that’s known for affordable furniture that frustrates customers while they’re building them, has introduced a new smart lighting system.

It’s called TRÅDFRI (which means wireless in Swedish) and it uses the ZigBee Light Link standard which is also used in the Philips Hue products. The TRÅDFRI  system was released to select European countries last fall but the system is getting a wider release to more European countries and North America in the coming weeks.

Just like Philips Hue, TRÅDFRI uses a hub device that connected to your router via an Ethernet connection and a local TRÅDFRI network is created.

The TRÅDFRI Gateway kit comes with two LED light bulbs (E26), a dimmer switch and the hub for $79.99 USD. Extra bulbs will costs $11.99 USD each and there are remote control switches, motion sensor kits, LED light panels and more coming later.

There will also be a TRÅDFRI app for Android and iOS. You can see for yourself all the offerings in the TRÅDFRI system, here.
