Flipboard has announced a major update with their v4.0 update. The new update is focused on what Flipboard calls Smart Magazines.
The Smart Magazines are automatically filled with content based on a person’s specific interests. Flipboard is aiming for users to deeply personalize their feeds in the app. For example, if a user is interested in technology, they can specify it to drones, startups or even cloud computing.
Once you update the app, you’ll be greeted with the new Home Carousel which users can have quick access to their favourite Smart Magazines. Then there’s the Passion Picker which will prompt users to select a broad topic of interest and then choose specific subcategories and certain sources like your favourite Twitter feeds, YouTube channel or specific websites.
The new update will also allow users to bring together certain sources into one magazine and you can also add RSS feeds, Flipboard user magazines, Flipboard topics.
Flipboard launched about 7 years ago and has more that 100 million active users per month and that has allowed them to create thousands of different passions to be able to choose from and integrate into their Smart Magazines.
The new 4.0 update is available today on Android and iOS (the update for the tablet version of the app will be coming in the next few weeks).
