Plex adds support for Amazon Alexa

Plex just gets on adding more and more cool features to the platform. They have just announced that they will be adding support for Amazon’s Alexa via a new skill.

If you own a Amazon Echo, Echo Dot, Tap, Fire TV or Fire Tablet, you’ll be able use Alexa to control Plex. You can ask Alexa to control all sorts of activities from movies and TV Shows or you can ask Alexa to make suggestions of what to watch. Some suggestions include content you haven’t watched in a while or resume the last episode of a show you were watching.

To get started, just tell (or yell or whisper) Alexa to enable the Plex skill and then you’ll be prompted to link your Plex account and then the fun begins.

In addition, Plex also announced that their Plex Pass users would be getting something called Webhooks, which are event that happen within your Plex media server that affect the outside world. For example, if you’re playing a movie, you can have your smart lights dim and your smart blinds can close, or turn your A/V receiver on.
