OnePlus 3: Everything you need to know

To follow up to the OnePlus 2’s VR launch, OnePlus announced the OnePlus 3 in a virtual space called The Loop but if you didn’t catch the event, all of the details of the new phone are now available.

The OnePlus 3 has a 5.5-inch 1080p display and is “Optic AMOLED”. To help power it, there’s a Snapdragon 820 processor and 6GB of RAM which should make it blazing fast.

For storage, it will only come in 64GB of internal storage with no microSD card slot. The OnePlus 3 has a slim aluminum unibody design that mimics the design as seen on HTC One series of phones. It is also water repellent, thanks to nano-coating.

Software wise, it will be running the latest version of OnePlus’ Oxygen OS but this one will be based on Android 6.0.

The rear-facing camera is 16-megapixels with a ƒ/2.0 aperture and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS). The same camera is capable of taking 720p HD video at 60fps and 4K video at 30fps as well as slow motion video. Meanwhile the front-facing camera is 8-megapixels with a ƒ/1.4 aperture.

OnePlus says the camera on the OnePlus 3 has a set of features called Smart Capture which includes HD Mode, Auto HDR and Dynamic De-noise. The last feature listed, will take several frames and blend them together to reduce the amount of noise found on an image.

Also on the OnePlus 3, you’ll find a fingerprint sensor, NFC (which was missing from the OnePlus 2). The battery is 3,000mAh and is non-removable. There’s also a USB Type-C port like last year’s phone. OnePlus says that the phone will charge up to 63% in just 30 minutes with what the company is calling Dash Charge.

The OnePlus 3 is available right now, without an invite. It comes in Graphite and Soft Gold and will cost $519 CAD (or $399 USD). You can buy it from OnePlus’ site.
