Pebble has announced another new smartwatch, the Pebble Time Round. As you can already guess from the name, it has a round display as compared to the square displays found on the Pebble Time and Time Steel.
It is much lighter and much thinner than any of Pebble’s smartwatches. It 7.5mm thin and it weighs just 28 grams. Pebble says that the Time Round smartwatch is the thinnest and lightest smartwatch in the world.
In comparison, the Moto 360 (2015) is 11.4mm thick and the Apple Watch is about 10.5mm. But all that thinness comes at a cost and a big one at that. Pebble said that the battery on the Time Round had to be made smaller.
That means you won’t be getting 10 days of battery life like on the Time Steel. You are looking more at about two days of battery life. It is still better even when compared to other smartwatches on the market. However, people were drawn to Pebble’s smartwatches because they offered great battery life but now it seems like it is style over function on the Time Round.
There is a bright side though, the Time Round can get a full day’s of battery life from just a 15 minute charge.
The large bezels on the Pebble Time Round will be a dealbreaker for some but Pebble said that the Time Round has an always-on e-paper colour display and will be splash resistant (which is different than water resistant).
Instead of going with another Kickstarter campaign like the Pebble Time and Time Steel, the Pebble Time Round will be available directly from Pebble with pre-orders starting today (worldwide). The Pebble Time Round will cost $249 USD and will ship in November.
The watch only comes in one size (38mm) but customers can choose from two different band sizes (either 14mm or 20mm). As for colour options, the 14mm comes in Silver with Stone Leather, Black with Flame Red Leather and special edition Rose Gold with White Leather (which is exclusive to the 14mm).
The 20mm comes in Silver with Nubuck Brown Leather or Black with Nero Black Leather. All the colours and sizes are the same price.
