On July 27th 2015, OnePlus held their own event for the successor to 2014’s OnePlus One. However, OnePlus didn’t do it in the traditional press event way.

They did the whole announcement via virtual reality. OnePlus released their own app on Google Play so then you could feel like you were actually there. You could watch the event with or without a Google Cardboard headset. I watched the event without a Google Cardboard headset and it still worked out well and it did feel like I was actually there at OnePlus’ office.

For those of you who missed the VR event, OnePlus put the entire announcement video on their YouTube channel.

Now on to the phone itself. Here is the OnePlus 2.

It has a 5.5-inch 1080p LCD display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080, giving it a pixel density of 401 ppi.

It is being powered by a 1.8 Ghz Octa-core 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. You can either get 16GB of storage (and has 3GB of RAM) or 64GB of storage (and has 4GB of RAM). The OnePlus 2 also has support for two SIM cards. To help keep the OnePlus 2 powered on, it has a 3,300 mAh battery.

For the software, it will be running on OnePlus’ Oxygen OS which is based on Android 5.1. There is also a fingerprint reader on the front of the display between the two customizable capacitive buttons. OnePlus says that their fingerprint reader is “faster than TouchID”. The sensor can store up to 5 fingerprints.

Another thing to note is that the fingerprint reader is also a home button but it doesn’t click like a button, it just vibrates like when you touch a capacitive button.

At the bottom of the OnePlus 2, you’ll find dual speakers and a USB Type-C port.
