Facebook has recently announced a new way for users to enjoy articles. It’s called Instant Articles.
Say if you were to go to the Facebook app, you’ll see an article of interest to you that one of your Facebook friends shared. When you click one, it may take a couple of seconds to load. Sometimes, it may take longer than normal.
With Instant Articles, Facebook is trying to eliminate that loading time of an article. So then a user can get straight to the article with no time to waste, waiting for an article to load.
Instant Articles also provides publishers to make their stories more life-like and interactive. You can zoom-in and take a look at high-resolution photos, just by moving your phone. Publishers can also put in, audio captions for photos, interactive maps and much more.
“Fundamentally, this is a tool that enables publishers to provide a better experience for their readers on Facebook” said Facebook Chief Product Officer Chris Cox. “Instant Articles lets them deliver fast, interactive articles while maintaining control of their content and business models.”
Facebook has a few launch partners for Instant Articles: The New York Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, NBC News, The Guardian, The Atlantic, Spiegel, Bild and BBC News.
For right now, Instant Articles is launching on the Facebook iPhone app first. There will be more partners and Instant Article will be coming to the Facebook Android app.
